Sunday the 4th of March, Heist Hunters and Buggenhout Brewers drove to the fields of Antwerp Armadillos in Merksem to play their second game of the league. The weather conditions were excellent for a good game of lacrosse. Brewers managed to get 21 players on their roster against 12 Hunters.
The Hunters started good, and managed to pressurize the Brewers so they had a lot of possession of the ball. This resulted in a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal of Michael Van Steirteghem. The Lead inspired the Hunters even more. And thanks to good team effort they managed to withhold the Brewers from scoring even more Maikel Cnop expended the lead with his first goal of the season. The Hunters kept creating good scoring opportunities, but the Brewers goaltender, Nick Van Ransbeeck, kept his goal clean with some good saves. Just before the end of Q1, the Brewers scored their first goal of the game bringing the score to 2-1 after 20 minutes of lacrosse.
The second quarter the Hunters kept on playing their game. They had a lot of possession and shots, but no goals. At the other side the brewers evened the score making it a 2-2 half time.
The difference in the amount of players was noticeable, the Hunters were down to only 11 players after Maikel Cnop had to go to the hospital because he had a piece of Berten Luypaerts broken Howitzer shaft in his arm. The Brewers made some good points and secured their first win of the season, end result 2-8.
Next week the Rhinos will be the opponent in the battle ofAntwerp. Let’s see if the Hunters can write history by being the first Belgian team who can win from the defending champion from Bonheiden.
